The Role of "Accidents" in My Digital Art
Project Type
Computer Art
Artist(s)
Stuart Smith
"The individual works are abstract images that demonstrate the capabilities of an “artist’s assistant” program I have been developing over the last few years. The works are in the spirit of Francis Bacon but are not representational."
Stuart Smith began his digital art journey as a music major in the 1960s, inspired by early computer music pioneers. His first compositions were generated by a Fortran program and created on borrowed computer time. With the rise of personal computers, Smith transitioned to digital tools, combining music, imagery, and programming. In retirement, Smith continues to create digital art, often collaborating with Professor Anna Ursyn. Their video works have been shown in the U.S. and Europe, and he regularly presents on his approach to computer-assisted art.
